On August 13, 2017, Disney's Hollywood studios closed The Great Movie Ride permanently to make way for the new Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway attraction.
Presented in part by TCM, the ride paid homage to twelve classic films throughout motion picture history with the use of Audio-Animatronic figures, live actors, special effects, and projections.
The attraction opened with the park on May 1, 1989 and was located inside a replica of Grauman's Chinese Theatre, one of Hollywood's most famous and historical movie palaces. The Great Movie Ride was the last attraction from Disney-MGM Studios' (the former name of Disney's Hollywood Studios) opening day to remain in operation.
Two female and one male ride host were filmed on three separate trips on the ride, all edited together to create one seamless tribute to the attraction.
