9 Things to Know Before you Ride Spaceship Earth | Epcot, Walt Disney World Resort

804 Views · Posted 4 years ago
You may know it as the golf ball at the entrance to Epcot, but this geodesic sphere is more than meets the eye. ~Leap~ along as we highlight 9 things that everyone should know about Spaceship Earth!

Spaceship Earth is a time-traveling journey through the history of human communication (0:22). This slow-moving dark ride is enjoyable for tadpoles of all ages. Since the ride is near Epcot’s main entrance, it attracts many guests in the morning. We recommend riding in the evening or using FastPass+ so you can experience the park’s priority attractions first (0:34)! Don’t panic if you cannot get a FastPass+, as this ride loads quickly (0:44). Each of the omnimover vehicles has two rows and seats two people per row (0:49). Did you know that Spaceship Earth is 18-stories tall and weighs 15.5 million pounds? This makes it the largest geodesic sphere in the world (0:54)! The sphere is covered by 11,324 triangular panels (0:58), which channel rainwater into the World Showcase lagoon so you stay dry while standing in line underneath. Spaceship Earth is actually made up of two different spheres (1:14): The inner sphere holds the attraction, while the outer sphere is made up of the panels. You may recognize some familiar faces in this attraction, as Disney Imagineers recycled face molds from Carousel of Progress and The Hall of Presidents’ animatronics (1:23). As Spaceship Earth ends. you have a chance to create a vision of your own future (1:34) and explore Project Tomorrow.

Leap’s ~Hopful~ Tips:
~ Don’t ride first thing in the morning
~ Ride in the evening or use a FastPass+
~ Guests in ECFs must transfer to a standard wheelchair and then into the ride vehicle
