Take a trip into the movies on the beloved classic attrition, The Great Movie Ride. This opening day attraction first welcomed guests on May 1st, 1989, the same day as the grand opening of the then named, Disney MGM Studios. The Great Movie Ride remained relatively unchanged for the duration of it's life at Hollywood Studios and featured classic scenes from the silver screen. The tour began looking at Hollywood musicals such as Footlight Parade, Singin' in the Rain and the beloved Mary Poppins. From there guests would enter a gang sequence and cowboy sequence where in one of the two scene the ride vehicle would get hijacked before moving on. From there, guests were taken through he sci-fi thriller Alien before entering the Indiana Jones sequence. Before wrapping things ups, guests would tour into classics such as Tarzan, Casablanca and Fantasia. The grand finale featured the Munchkinland scene from the 1939 classic, The Wizard of Oz.

The Great Movie Ride was a classic. An ingenious attraction that utilized an enormous trackless ride system to transports thousands of guests through the movies everyday. At the time of it's opening, the attraction featured what was considered the most advanced animatronic of it's time with the Wicked Witch of the West. But all that movie history was gone forever when the attraction closed on Sunday, August 13th, 2017 to make way for the new Runaway Mine Train attraction featuring Mickey Mouse himself.
